MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Danielle Kunkel was named women's cross country Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Runner of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Kunkel ran a personal best time of 21:47.6, beating her old PR by 19 seconds in finishing third at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College (Ill.) on their Saukie Golf Course 6K course. She was the top NCAA Division III finisher out of almost 500 runners. Kunkel was outkicked in the finish stretch by a Division II athlete from Lewis University (Ill.) and an unattached runner in the race that started with the temperature above 80 degrees. Her time made her the fourth-fastest Pioneer woman in school history behind only three previous cross country All-Americans.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday at the Blugold Invitational.
