MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Ian LaMere was named men's cross country Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Runner of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
After sitting out the 2013 season with a stress fracture, LaMere, a Green Bay, Wisconsin native, had a successful return, winning the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational on Sept. 13 by 10 seconds, in an excellent early season time of 25:39.1. After splitting 5:11 and 10:22 for the first two miles, he broke the race open with a 5:06 fourth mile. LaMere led the Pioneer men to the team title that scored 20 points in the eight-team meet. His time would have placed him third at the 2009 WIAC championship race run on the Whitewater course.
The Pioneers return to action on Sept. 26 at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana (Ill.).
