Heiden, Smaga and Walden earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors
Chesley Heiden was one of 308 women in Division III who earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors for the 2013 cross country season, while Matt Smaga and Joel Walden were one of 228 men to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
NEW ORLEANS – Chelsey Heiden was one of 308 women in Division III who earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors for the 2013 cross country season, while Matt Smaga and Joel Walden were one of 228 men to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
Heiden is an environmental engineering major and posts a 3.58 GPA. The freshman finished in 40th-place at the 2013 NCAA Midwest Regional in November.
Smaga is a social science/history education major with a 3.43 GPA, while Walden has a 3.33 GPA as a math education major. Walden led the Pioneers at the Midwest Regional with an 10th-place finish. Smaga was the Pioneers third best finisher with a 29th-place finish.
Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.30 or greater and must have finished among the top 25 percent of finishers at their respective regional championships.
