Men’s Cross Country’s LeMere Finishes 39th at Nationals

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's cross country's freshman Ian LaMere finished in 39th-place at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country National Championships at the La Vern Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday.

The Green Bay, Wis. native wrapped up his rookie season posting a time of 25:08.3 to earn 39th-place, after earning second team all-conference in October and finishing 18th at the NCAA Midwest Regional earlier this month.

Tim Nelson of UW-Stout won the eight-kilometer national championship in convincing fashion with a time of 24:26.  Bobby Over of Allegheny came home second in 24:34, followed by Grant Wintheiser of St. Olaf (24:35), Kevin Sparks of Washington University (24:37) and Tully Hannan of Bates (24:39).

North Central College won its third NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country National Championship in the past four seasons. North Central won its second consecutive national championship with a team score of 157. Calvin College finished second with 174 points, followed by Haverford at 175 and Wisconsin-La Crosse at 176. Washington University rounded out the top five with 212 points.

Rounding out the top 10 in team scoring were Bates, Tufts, Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Central.

The event marks the first time Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has hosted the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship and the 10th time that the LaVern Gibson Course has hosted a national event.  The Course has also served of the NCAA Division I championships from 2004-11.

LaMere and the Pioneers open the indoor track & field season with the Alumni/Intrasquad meet on Dec. 1.
