UW-Platteville Hosts 2012 Pioneer Open
At the 2012 Pioneer Open, the University of
Wisconsin-Platteville men's cross country team swept the top seven
places in a non-scored meet. The meet was held at Cole Acres in
nearby Cuba City, which will also serve as the host to the 2012
WIAC Cross Country Championships, later this month.
The first person across the finish line was Joel Walden
(pictured)
for the Pioneers in a time of 26:55.9. Just under 13 seconds
separated the next six runners for UW-Platteville including Matt Kocak
(27:01.8), Ian LaMere
(27:03.9), Sam
Poser (27:09.3), Derek
Fahrenkrug (27:12.7), Jacob James
(27:13.7) and Harrison
Miles (27:14.7).
On the women's side, Alyssa Duncan and Paeton Wantuch of
UW-Whitewater were the first (24:35.4) and second (24:54.4) runners
across the line. The next five finishers were Pioneers including Jocelyn
Orner (24:57.4), Kiera Depies
(24:59.4), Teagan
Seneczko (25:04.5), Olivia
Bukowski (25:06.6) and Megan Knutson
(25:07.2).
Both teams will next travel to the Drews-Neubauer Invite on
Saturday, Oct. 13 at Maple Grove Golf Course in West
Salem, Wisconsin.
