UW-Platteville Particpiates in the Brooks Invitational
Sophomore Danielle Kunkel was the top finisher
for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's cross country
team at the Brooks Invitational, hosted by UW-Oshkosh at the Lake
Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
Kunkel was the first Pioneer across the line in 22:53 to lead
UW-Platteville with a 34th-place finish. She was followed by senior
Steph Dorton, who was 99th in 23:39, next were
Jocelyn Orner and Lisa Kaiser,
who finished 146th (24:12) and 184th (24:47), respectively.
Washington University, who is ranked No. 3 in the nation, were the
team champions and were led by individual champion, Erica Jackey,
who finished in 21:39. The top five runners for the Bears were
separated by 58 seconds and all in the top 19.
For the rest of the Pioneers, Olivia Bukowski was
204th (25:06), Carin Lowe was 207th (25:11) and
Michele Belling was 227th (25:36).
A tight pack separated by 1:07 led the University of
Wisconsin-Platteville men's cross country team to a ninth-place
finish at the Brooks Invitational, hosted by UW-Oshkosh at Lake
Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
Anthony Swimm led the Pioneers with an
eighth-place finish in a time of 25:17. 27 seconds separated the
next four finishers for UW-Platteville. Bill Clift
was 43rd (25:57), Derek Fahrenkrug was 57th
(26:09), Matt Borneman was 61st (26:12) and
Sam Poser was 82nd (26:24).
North Central, the nation's top team had five runners in the top
21 and were separated by 28 seconds, to win the meet. Tim Nelson of
UW-Stout was the first individual across the line in 24:45.85, 14
seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.
To round out the UW-Platteville lineup, the Pioneers'
Scott Clark and Dan LaCroix were
103rd (26:35) and 107th (26:38), respectively.
The Pioneers will return to Winneconne for its next meet, Firday,
Oct. 21 at the
UW-Oshkosh Open for its final tuneup before the WIAC
Championships.
