UW-Platteville Men and Women Each Finish Sixth at the Dan Huston Invitational
33 seconds separated the top five
runners for the UW-Platteville men’s cross country en route
to a sixth-place finish on Saturday at the Dan Huston Invitational
hosted by Wartburg University in Waverly, Iowa.
In the 8k race, senior Anthony Swimm was the
first Pioneer to cross the line in 19th in 26:58. Just three
seconds behind him were junior teammates Matt
Borneman and Derek Fahrenkrug, who were
21st (27:01) and 22nd (27:01), respectively.
The 33 seconds separating the Pioneers was the best among the
12-team field but it was Loras, who won the 12-team race. The
Duhawks were led by the sixth-place finish of senior Dan McDermott,
who finished in 26:22. Ryan Edwardson of Simpson was the individual
champion in a time of 25:25, 50 seconds ahead of his closest
competitor.
To round out the top five for the Pioneers, freshman Sam
Poser was 32nd (27:23) and senior Scott
Clark was 39th (27:31). Other finishers for UW-Platteville
were freshman Dan LaCroix was 41st and freshman
Matt Kockak was 42nd in 27:35 and 27:43.
Senior Ann Tank led the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s cross country team to a sixth-place finish on Saturday at the Dan Huston Invitational hosted by Wartburg University in Waverly, Iowa.
Tank finished the 6k course in a time of 23:17 en route to a third-place finish. Sophomore Danielle Kunkel and senior Stephanie Dorton were 20th (24:25) and 23rd (24:39), respectively.
Emily Eimers of host Wartburg won the individual race by three seconds in a time of 22:53 to lead the Knights to a team title performance. Wartburg also had the fourth-place and the 10th place runners, including Sammi Brunett and Haddie Vawter, respectively.
Pioneer freshman Jocelyn Orner was 41st in 25:40, followed by junior Carin Lowe in 49th in 26:10, next freshman Lisa Kaiser was 52nd in 26:17 and sophomore Olivia Bukowski was 54th in 26:32.
The Pioneers will run the next two weekends at the Winneconne Golf
Course in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, beginning with the Brooks
Invitational on Saturday, October 15th.
