Pioneer Men Take Third; Women Finish Ninth at Roy Griak Invitational
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's cross country team
finished third at the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the
University of Minnesota, on Saturday.
The Pioneers landed three runners in the top 10, including Bill
Clift (fifth, 25:59.1), Anthony Swimm (sixth, 25:59.5) and Matt
Borneman (9th, 26:04.2).
With a third-place finish, UW-Platteville finished ahead of No. 19
Hamline and WIAC rival, UW-Eau Claire. UW-Oshkosh, who is ranked
No. 15 in the latest USTFCCCA poll, won the team title with Nate
Stymiest leading the Titans with a runner-up finish. Devin Monson
of Hamline won the individual title in 25:33.9.
Junior Derek Fahrenkrug finished 19th (26:20.19) and freshman Dan
LaCroix was 65th (27:10.4) to round out the top five for the
Pioneers. Freshman Sam Poser and junior Kyle Klein were 68th
(27:12.5) and 86th (27:35.4), respectively.
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's cross country
team took ninth in a 32-team field at the Roy Griak Invitational,
hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday.
The Pioneers were led by senior Ann Tank, who finished sixth in a
time of 22:56. UW-Oshkosh junior Christy Cazzola won the
6,000-meter individual race with a time of 22:06.5.
Sophomore Danielle Kunkel was the second Pioneer across the finish
line in 24th place (23:25), followed by senior Steph Dorton in 48th
(24:20.2), freshman Jocelyn Orner was 69th (24:37.8) and freshman
Lisa Kaiser in 123rd (25:52.4). In addition, senior Carin Lowe was
126th (25:55.7) and sophomore Olivia Bukowski was 131st
(25:59.5).
The Pioneers will return to action on Friday, Sept. 30
at the Blugold Invite at the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax,
WIsconsin. The women will run at 4 p.m., followed by the men's race
at 5 p.m.
