Garvens claims WIAC Championship
Jason Garvens won the WIAC Championship and led the men's team to second-place finish in the WIAC Championships on Saturday in Coflax, Wisc. hosted by UW-Eau Claire.
The Pioneer men missed first-place by 3 points to UW-Stevns Point with 60 points. Garvens covered the 8K course in 24:45, and followed by Patrick Klein grabbing third place in 24:55. Garvens received the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award.
The Pioneer women finished 5th-place. Gina Smith led the Pioneer women with a 22nd-place finish, completing the 6K course in 23:28, and followed by Alli Tank with 23rd-place in 23:33.
Both teams return to action Nov. 13, and participate in the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional in Rock Island, Ill. The regional event will be hosted by Augustana College. The NCAA Division III Championship is scheduled for Nov. 20, in Waverly, Iowa, and will be hosted by Wartburg College.
