Carlson, McDonald Earn AVCA All-American Honors
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Senior Emma Carlson and junior Kierney McDonald of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team were recognized as American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American on Wednesday morning the organization announced. Carlson was named All-American Third Team, while McDonald was tabbed Honorable Mention.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Senior Emma Carlson and junior Kierney McDonald of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team were recognized as American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American on Wednesday morning the organization announced. Carlson was named All-American Third Team, while McDonald was tabbed Honorable Mention.
Carlson, after earning AVCA Honorable Mention All-American last season, put together a fantastic season that saw her earn All-WIAC honors for the third consecutive season. Across 34 matches, the senior averaged 4.39 kills per set and her 509 total kills rank as the second-most in a single season in program history. The Dixon, Illinois native climbed the UW-Platteville career record books throughout the season as well, as her 1669 career kills are the second-most in program history, trailing only Dana Alf's 1821. Carlson was also an important piece of the Pioneers defense, finishing second on the team with 416 digs. Her 62 service aces paced the team and are currently the most in the WIAC.
McDonald joined Carlson on the All-WIAC Team following a season that saw her average 3.39 kills per set and 0.91 blocks per set. The junior posted a team-high .298 hitting percentage, which ranked third in the WIAC, and her 397 total kills were a career-high. The Taylor Ridge, Illinois native was the Pioneers top defensive player at the net, finishing with a team-high 107 blocks, including 23 solo blocks. McDonald reached double-digit kills in 25 matches on the season, and she matched her career-high of 19 multiple times, including in the NCAA DIII Second Round win over Washington (Mo.).
