Four Pioneers Earn WIAC Postseason Honors
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Junior Emma Carlson and senior Claudia Johnson of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team were named to the 2023 All-WIAC Team it was announced on Thursday. Sophomore Kierney McDonald earned Honorable Mention recognition, while senior Abby Feldmann was tabbed All-Sportsmanship.

Sophomore Kierney McDonald earned Honorable Mention recognition, while senior Abby Feldmann was tabbed All-Sportsmanship.
Carlson found her way into the Pioneers record books following an impressive junior season in which she surpassed the 1,000 career kills mark. The Dixon, Illinois native was second in the WIAC in both kills (450) and kills per set (4.17) while posting a .243 hitting percentage. The 4.17 kills per set is the second-best single season mark in program history and the 450 on the season is seventh overall. The junior was also third in the conference with 44 service and added 2.38 digs per set which was third on the Pioneers. Carlson reached double digit kills in 26 of 29 matches and finished with 15 double-doubles. The two-time WIAC Offensive Player of the Week posted a career-high 29 kills in a four-set win over Augustana (Ill.) on September 16. That total is the third-most in a single match in program history.
Johnson averaged a career-best 2.43 kills per set across 29 matches played. The senior totaled 262 kills on the season and finished eighth in the conference with a .272 hitting percentage. The Bettendorf, Iowa native was second on the team with 0.83 blocks per set, posting 16 solo blocks and 74 block assists. Johnson reached double digit kills in 11 contests, including a season-high 19 in a win over St. Norbert on September 9.
McDonald finished second in the WIAC with 110 blocks and was third with 1.05 blocks per set. The sophomore reached 200 total kills for the second straight season and was ninth in the conference with a .272 hitting percentage. Named WIAC Defensive Player of the Week in late October, McDonald recorded at least five total blocks 11 times including a season-high 10 (three solo, seven block assists) against Cornell. The Taylor Ridge, Illinois native posted double-digit kills in four matches, with a 13 in a five-set match against Coe.
Feldmann played in five matches and averaged 2.00 assists per set. The senior recorded a season-high five assists in a win over Macalester on September 30 and had a kill and one assist against UW-Stout on November 3.
