Pioneers Defeat Edgewood On Senior Night
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (20-7) picked up a 3-1 win over Edgewood (19-9) on Senior Night inside Williams Fieldhouse. The Pioneers recognized seven seniors and their contributions to the program.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (20-7) picked up a 3-1 win over Edgewood (19-9) on Senior Night inside Williams Fieldhouse. The Pioneers recognized seven seniors and their contributions to the program.
The Eagles overcame a seven-point deficit in set one to win 25-22, as they scored eight of the final 10 points to pull away. UW-Platteville settled in the next three sets, winning by scores of 25-18, 25-13, and 25-15. After totaling 10 attack errors in the first set, the Pioneers bounced back and totaled just five across sets two and three for hitting percentages of .303 and .314, respectively. In the fourth set, UW-Platteville led by eight early, and later scored the final six points to secure the victory.
Four players reached double digits in kills for the Pioneers, led by 12 from sophomore Kierney McDonald. Senior Claudia Johnson, senior Madelyn Cooley, and junior Emma Carlson all added 11 kills of their own as UW-Platteville tallied 50 kills as a team in the match.
Senior Shea Lauria paced the team with 18 digs, while Carlson (15) and sophomore Bri Gartner (10) also reached double figures. Sophomore Gracie Gibbens tallied a match-high 21 assists, while senior Sam Rossetti added 16.
McDonald totaled six block assists as UW-Platteville recorded 16 block assists as a team. Senior Camryn Johnston was second on the team with three, while three other players had at least two.
The Pioneers posted nine services compared to just three for Edgewood. Lauria, Carlson, and Gibbens each recorded two.
UW-Platteville remains at home for the regular season and conference finale on Friday night at 7 p.m. against UW-Stout.
