Carlson Reaches 1,000 Kills As Pioneers Sweep Falcons
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Highlighted by junior Emma Carlson reaching 1,000 career kills, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (16-3, 3-0 WIAC) swept UW-River Falls (14-5, 1-2 WIAC) on Friday night inside Williams Fieldhouse for the annual Yell Night.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Highlighted by junior Emma Carlson reaching 1,000 career kills, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (16-3, 3-0 WIAC) swept UW-River Falls (14-5, 1-2 WIAC) on Friday night inside Williams Fieldhouse for the annual Yell Night.
Neither team led by more than three for much of the first set, but the Pioneers closed strong with a 6-2 run to secure a 25-19 win. UW-Platteville carried that momentum into set two, as a 10-1 run later led to a 25-15 victory. Another big run had the Pioneers ahead by five in the third set, but the Falcons battled back and trailed 21-20 late. UW-Platteville wrapped up the sweep by picking up four kills in the final six points to win 25-23.
Carlson finished with a match-high 15 kills and reached the 1,000 kills plateau for her career with her first kill in the third set. Senior Claudia Johnson added nine kills while hitting a team-high .421. As a team, the Pioneers finished with 41 kills in the match along with a .257 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Bri Gartner led the team with 19 digs, while senior Shea Lauria also reached double figures with 13 digs. Senior Sam Rossetti recorded 22 assists with sophomore Gracie Gibbens posting 15 assists.
The Pioneers will host the Pioneer Invitational tomorrow with three other teams competing. UW-Platteville will face Carthage at 2 p.m. and Millikin at 4 p.m. inside Williams Fieldhouse.
