Pioneers Win Five Set Match Against Dubuque
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (7-1) collected its seventh consecutive win on Tuesday evening with a 3-2 win over Dubuque (6-3) in the Stoltz Sports Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

The Spartans closed the opening set on a five-point run to secure a 25-19 set one win. UW-Platteville answered with a 25-16 set two win, highlighted by a 11-1 run down the stretch. In the third set, the Pioneers overcame a four-point deficit to pick up a 25-23 win, but Dubuque responded with a 25-16 set four win to force the match to a fifth set. The Pioneers scored five straight in the deciding set to take a six-point advantage, and later closed the match with three straight kills to win 15-9.
Four Pioneers reached double digit kills, led by 16 from junior Emma Carlson. Junior Madelyn Cooley added 12 kills while Claudia Johnson (10) and Kierney McDonald (10) also reached the mark. McDonald tallied a team leading .625 hitting percentage as UW-Platteville posted a .260 hitting percentage as a team.
Carlson posted double digit digs (13) to record her fourth double-double of the season. Sophomore Bri Gartner led the team with 16 digs and senior Sam Rossetti finished with 14 digs and a team-high 42 assists.
The Pioneers head to Augustana (Ill.) this weekend for a trio of matches, starting with Rose-Hulman at 6 p.m. and Clarkson at 8 p.m. on Friday evening.
