Pioneers Clip Scarlet Hawks Friday
DE PERE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team collected its fourth straight win with a 3-1 victory over Illinois Tech on Friday night inside the Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center at the St. Norbert College Invitational.
DE PERE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team collected its fourth straight win with a 3-1 victory over Illinois Tech on Friday night inside the Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center at the St. Norbert College Invitational.
The score sat even at 11 in the opening set, but the Pioneers pulled away behind a five-point run to claim a 25-16 win. That momentum carried over into set two, as UW-Platteville led throughout en route to win by a score of 25-17. Illinois Tech took set three 25-20 but the Pioneers wrapped up the 3-1 win behind a 25-19 set four victory.
Juniors Madelyn Cooley and Emma Carlson paced UW-Platteville with 15 kills apiece. Cooley finished with a team-high .583 hitting percentage as the Pioneers tallied an impressive .362 hitting percentage and 62 kills as a team. Senior Camryn Johnston also reached double digit kills with 11, and senior Claudia Johnson added nine kills on a .368 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Bri Gartner led the team with 14 digs, while senior Sam Rossetti (11) and Carlson (10) also reached double figures. Rossetti finished with a season-high 46 assists in the win.
The Pioneers will continue play at the St. Norbert College Invitational on Saturday with a pair of matches. UW-Platteville will face Dominican (Ill.) at noon before playing host school St. Norbert at 2 p.m.
