Pioneers Win Third Straight With Sweep Of Loras
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (3-1) recorded its second consecutive sweep on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over Loras (2-2) inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (3-1) recorded its second consecutive sweep on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over Loras (2-2) inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
The Pioneers put together a strong opening set, posting a hitting percentage of .222 and 14 kills to win 25-20. The Duhawks held a one-point advantage in the early stages of the second set before a five-point run flipped the score in favor of the Pioneers. UW-Platteville pulled away late in the set to win 25-18 and take a 2-0 match lead. In set three, the Pioneers used a 7-1 run to secure the sweep with a 25-21 victory.
Junior Emma Carlson led the team with 11 kills on a .276 hitting percentage. She added six digs and three block assists. Sophomore Kierney McDonald finished second with nine kills while hitting .500, while junior Madelyn Cooley tallied six kills. The Pioneers finished with 38 kills on a .181 hitting percentage in the match.
Junior Shea Lauria recorded a team-high 13 digs. Senior Sam Rossetti (17) and sophomore Gracie Gibbens (13) led the way for UW-Platteville in assists. The Pioneers finished with seven service aces in the match, with sophomore Kelsey Ewert posting three.
The Pioneers will play three games at the St. Norbert College Invitational this weekend starting with a matchup against Illinois Tech on Friday night at 7 p.m.
