Pioneers Down Duhawks 3-1
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – After dropping the opening set, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (22-7) won three straight sets for a victory over the Loras Duhawks (8-18) Tuesday night inside the Williams Fieldhouse.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – After dropping the opening set, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (22-7) won three straight sets for a victory over the Loras Duhawks (8-18) Tuesday night inside the Williams Fieldhouse.
The win gives the Pioneers 22 on the season, the most since 2010.
Loras overcame an early five-point deficit to win the first set by a score of 25-22. The Pioneers answered with a strong 25-13 set two victory behind a pair of six-point runs to pull away from the Duhawks. Sophomore Maddie Schultz and junior Camryn Johnston were impressive in the second set, as they combined for 11 kills on just 14 total attacks. UW-Platteville carried the momentum into the third set, once again winning 25-13. The Pioneers wrapped up the match in the fourth set, using an 11-point run to take a commanding lead before winning 25-16.
Schultz posted a game-high 14 kills on a .400 hitting percentage. Johnston added 13 kills on a game-high hitting percentage of .444, while sophomore Emma Carlson posted a double-double with 12 kills and 18 digs. Sophomore Shea Lauria (17) and Schultz (15) each reached double figures in digs. Carlson tallied a season-high seven service aces as the Pioneers finished with nine service aces as a team. UW-Platteville recorded eight total blocks in the match compared to just three for the Duhawks.
The Pioneers wrap up the regular season with a conference match on the road against UW-River Falls on Saturday night at 7 p.m. A win would clinch a home match for UW-Platteville in the opening round of the WIAC Tournament.
