Pioneers Drop Road Match To Warhawks
WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s volleyball team (15-5, 1-3 WIAC) competed against conference opponent UW-Whitewater (17-2, 4-0 WIAC) on Tuesday evening, falling 3-1 on the road inside the Kris Russell Volleyball Arena.

UW-Whitewater pulled away in the opening set behind a 7-1 run to take a 15-8 advantage. UW-Platteville cut the deficit down to four, but the Warhawks scored the final four points to win the first set. In the second set, UW-Whitewater jumped in front early and never trailed, winning 25-14. The Pioneers responded with a quick start to the third set, holding an 11-1 lead behind a pair of service aces by senior Sam Rossetti and kills from sophomores Madilyn Schultz and Emma Carlson. UW-Platteville used the early lead to win the third set 25-12, but the Warhawks claimed the match victory with a 25-14 win in the fourth set.
Carlson finished with a team-high 15 kills and tallied a double-double with 13 digs. Freshman Kierney McDonald also finished with double-digit kills, recording 10 on a .400 hitting percentage and added a team-high four total blocks. Freshman Bri Gartner led the team with 16 digs, while Rossetti totaled 27 assists and three service aces.
The Pioneers host Dubuque in a week on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
