Volleyball falls 3-1 to Blugolds in final home match
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Volleyball team lost 24-26, 25-16, 20-25, 14-25 to University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Tuesday night on Bo Ryan Court. The Pioneers fall to 16-10 (2-4 WIAC) and the Blugolds improve to 14-8 (4-2 WIAC).
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Volleyball team lost 24-26, 25-16, 20-25, 14-25 to University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Tuesday night on Bo Ryan Court. The Pioneers fall to 16-10 (2-4 WIAC) and the Blugolds improve to 14-8 (4-2 WIAC).
In the first set the Pioneers trailed 18-22 and took a 23-22 lead led by the serve of sophomore Olivia Kudronowicz serving and two kills from Katie Jones. The Blugolds' sophomore Arianna Barrett had three kills to take the set 26-24.
The Pioneers dominated the second set with 11 kills on just 25 attempts for a team hitting percentage of .320. The Blugolds came back and played their best in the third and fourth sets. As a team the Bluegolds hit .171 in the third and .182 in the fourth set. The Pioneers were held under .100 in each of the final two sets.
Jones and Kudronowicz led the offense with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Jones hit .208 and added four blocks. Kudronowicz hit .259 and also led the team with 18 digs and two aces. Kudronowicz added three blocks.
Sophomore Kaite Asche had four blocks to match Jones for a team high. Asche added six kills and a .222 hitting percentage. Freshman Stephanie Kalinowski had 16 digs in the match.
The Pioneers travel to Illinois Wesleyan to play in the IWU Holiday Inn Classic this weekend. On Friday the Pioneers play Wash U at 5:00 pm and on Saturday play Illinois Wesleyan at 10:00 am and Millikin at 12:30 pm.
