Pioneers split weekend matches; Carter reaches 3,000 assists

The UW-Platteville volleyball team won its first matches each day to earn a weekend split at the UW-Oshkosh Classic.
The Pioneers beat Simpson 25-17, 25-20, 25-20 to kick off the tournament Friday, then fell to a 16-7 St. Olaf squad 25-18, 25-21, 25-18. On Saturday, UW-Platteville topped Finlandia 22-25, 25-11, 25-9, 25-19 before losing to #17 St. Thomas 25-20, 25-20, 25-18.

In the Simpson victory Kielyn Kapugi hit .320 with 11 kills and Merrit Johnson hit .462 with 8 kills. Katie Jones had a career high six of the teams 12 aces against the Storm.
In their loss to St. Olaf Allison Jensen had 10 kills hitting .368 while Jones had seven kills hitting a team high .467.
Jensen, Johnson, and Ashlee Moore each recorded 11 kills in the win against Finlandia as four of the five primary Pioneer hitters were over .300 in the match.
In their loss against an elite St. Thomas team Johnson lead the Pioneers with nine kills and hit over .400 for the third time in four matches at the classic.
Allie Carter had a weekend-best 43 assists vs. Finlandia, while Maddie Sailors' 14 digs against the Lions were a team-high at the tournament. Carter had a total of 127 assists on the weekend giving her 3,047 for her career and becoming just the sixth Pioneer to record 3,000 career assists. The last to achieve the feat was All-American Ali Sikic (2008-2011).
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday at #9 UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
