Pioneers rally to make Homecoming crowd happy

The largest crowd of the season was treated to quite a match, as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team beat Lakeland 3-2 in the annual Homecoming Yell night in Williams Fieldhouse.
The Pioneers rallied to take a 19-25, 25-8, 22-25, 27-25, 15-10 victory in front of the enthusiastic home crowd.
Amber Williams had two straight kills to break the 25-25 tie and clinch the set four victory, which led to the deciding fifth. The Pioneers then hit .385 (six kills and just one error in 13 attempts) to Lakeland's .150 in the final set.
Williams led the Pioneer attackers with 17 kills, while Ashlee Moore had 13. Allie Carter made 42 assists and tied Allison Jensen with a team-high 14 digs. Grace Austin added 13 digs and three service aces, while Lindsey Decker had 11 digs. Lidia Frias led a strong defensive effort at the net with seven block assists.
Brittini Scoles recorded 13 kills for Lakeland, which fell to 11-9 overall.
The Pioneers, 7-16 on the year, play host to a Homecoming tournament this weekend. UW-Platteville faces Central (4 p.m.) and Augustana (8 p.m.) on Friday and Nebraska Wesleyan (10 a.m.) and Carthage (2 p.m.) Saturday.
Coach Jon Stenman will salute seniors Williams, Decker, and Frias on Saturday.
