Pioneers defeat River Falls at Cornell Tournament

MOUNT VERNON, IA. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team went 1-2 at the Cornell Classic Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

MOUNT VERNON, IA. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team went 1-2 at the Cornell Classic Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

The Pioneers lost their first match in four sets to the University of Chicago Phoenix 25-23, 19-25, 20-25, and 14-25. Junior setter Allie Carter logged 40 assists for the Pioneers. Meanwhile, senior libero Lindsey Decker had 19 digs. Junior outside hitter Allison Jensen recorded 13 kills in the four sets.

In the second match of the tournament, the Pioneers had a 3-1 win over the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons 25-18, 25-23, and 25-13. Jensen again led the Pioneers in kills with 10, and Carter logged 26 assists.

In the final match of the tournament the Pioneers fell to the Cornell College Rams in four sets 22-25, 25-22, 16-25, and 16-25. Carter logged 34 assists, and sophomore setter Grace Austin had 15 digs. Jensen continued strong with 13 kills in the four sets.

The Pioneers, 5-11 on the year, return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
