Pioneers earn first victory
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team earned its first victory of 2016, going 1-3 at its home tournament on Friday and Saturday at Williams Fieldhouse.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team earned its first victory of 2016, going 1-3 at its home tournament on Friday and Saturday at Williams Fieldhouse.
In their first match of tournament, the Pioneers fell to the University of Dubuque Spartans 24-26, 22-25, 25-16, and 25-27. Junior setter Allie Carter logged 17 assists for the Pioneers, and senior libero Lindsey Decker had 16 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Sarah Murphy and junior outside hitter Merritt Johnson each recorded 9 kills in the four sets.
In the Pioneers' second match of the tournament, they lost in four sets to the Carleton College Knights 26-24, 25-27, 21-25, and 16-25. Sophomore setter Grace Austin had 22 digs for the Pioneers, and Carter recorded 23 assists. Johnson logged 10 kills for the Pioneers.
On Saturday for the third match of the tournament, the Pioneers defeated the Monmouth College Scots 3-0 for their first win under new coach Jon Stenman 25-21, 25-9, and 25-17. Decker and Austin each recorded 10 digs for the Pioneers. Meanwhile, Carter and freshman setter Alyssa Wawrzyniakowski each logged 16 assists. Johnson recorded 11 kills.
In the Pioneers final match on Saturday, they fell to the Buena Vista University Beavers 20-25, 16-25, and 16-25. Carter logged 11 assists for the Pioneers. Junior outside hitter Allison Jensen had 7 kills.
The Pioneers, 1-8 on the year, return to action on Tuesday, Sept.13, at Williams Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. against Clarke University.
