Volleyball drops WIAC finale at UW-Whitewater
The UW-Platteville volleyball team fell to UW-Whitewater, 3-0 (29-27, 25-14, 26-24) in the final game of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season Wednesday at Whitewater, Wis.
WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team fell to UW-Whitewater, 3-0 (29-27, 25-14, 26-24) in the final game of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season Wednesday at Whitewater, Wis.
The Pioneers will be the six-seed in the WIAC Postseason Tournament and will travel back to UW-Whitewater, who is the three-seed, on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The Pioneers pounded 19 kills with a .292 hitting percentage in the first set but dropped the opening set 29-27. The Warhawks took control of the second set with a 25-14 victory and then held off the Pioneers, 26-24, for the sweep.
Sophomore Jennifer Schmidt led the Pioneers with 14 kills and added two block assists. Junior LeeAnn Mizgalski recorded nine kills, followed by senior Stephanie Kirchner with seven, who added 13 digs. The Warhawks totaled 56 kills to the Pioneers 39, but UW-Platteville had a 53-50 edge on digs.
The Pioneers will finish out the regular season on Friday, when they travel to Mount Vernon, Iowa to take on Cornell College and Warburg.
