Volleyball's come back fall short to UW-La Crosse

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – After being down two sets, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville comeback fell short to UW-La Crosse, 3-2 (25-13, 25-20, 20-25, 18-25, 15-12), on Wednesday at the Williams Fieldhouse.
Errors plagued the Pioneers in the first two sets as they fell 25-13 and 25-20 in the second-set. UW-Platteville had a .000 hitting percentage in the first two sets, but managed to stay alive winning the third-set, 25-20, even though hitting -.03.
The Pioneers kept their momentum jumping out to a 7-3 lead in the fourth-set. The Eagles cut the Pioneers lead to two points, 12-10, but a 7-2 run by the Pioneers gave UW-Platteville a 19-12 advantage. UW-Platteville then cruised to a 25-18 victory putting the match to a deciding fifth-set.
The first-half of the final set was played pretty evenly, with UWL taking a slight edge 8-7 before three consecutive errors by the Pioneers giving the Eagles an 11-7 lead. The Pioneers weren't able to over come the four-point deficit falling 15-12.
Senior Stephanie Kirchner and LeeAnn Mizgalski led UW-Platteville with 11 kills apiece and Kirchner was just two digs away from a double-double.
UWL's Lauren Probst recorded a double-double with a match-high 18 kills and 14 digs.
The Pioneers move to 5-9 and 0-2 in conference play while UWL improves to 5-7 and 1-1 in league action.
UW-Platteville takes a break from conference play to compete in the Wheaton Thunder Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Pioneers will square off with Carroll (Wis.) and host Wheaton (Ill.) on Friday, and then North Central (Ill.) and Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday.
