The first set was a neck and neck affair that Edgewood led for most of the way. The Pioneers finally tied the score at 22 and rode the momentum to a 29-27 win. Senior Samantha Rampart drove home the winning point. Junior Rachel Oldenburg was a defensive stalwart for the Pioneers, collecting three unassisted blocks in the set.
The Pioneers came out hot in the second set, building a quick 14-5 lead. Kirchner had three kills in the first half of the set. Kirchner and Rampart combined to block shots at two key points in the set, slowing the momentum Edgewood was building with a 10-5 run. The Pioneers recovered and finished off the set, winning 25-17.
Edgewood came back firing in the third set, opening the set with a 13-4 run. The Pioneers climbed back into the game at 15-10, prompting an Edgewood timeout. The Pioneers continued to chip away at the Eagle lead, finally tying the score at 21. The team's played point-for-point from there. At 24-23, Rampart had two set-saving digs, and the Pioneers scored three straight points to win the set 26-25.
The Pioneers play next Friday, Oct. 26 against UW-Superior. The match is Senior Night, and the Pioneers will honor seniors Danielle Cushley, Amanda Fisch, Brooke Nichols and Samantha Rampart.
