UW-Platteville Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven with Two More Wins
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville extended its undefeated streak at home to seven with a pair of straight-set wins over Dubuque and St. Mary's (Minnesota) on Friday.
The Pioneers (14-7) out hit Dubuque by a .290 to .088 en route to the straight-set, 25-18, 25-15, 25-18, win over local rival Dubuque. In the win, UW-Platteville utilized a balanced attack as senior Samantha Rampart paced the attack with a team-best 10 kills.
The Pioneers controlled the frontline with nine blocks, including a block solo and three block assists from reigning WIAC Player of the Week - LeeAnn Mizgalski and three block assists from Rachel Oldenburg. Just as impressive as the frontline was the back row play that sparked the offensive attack as three players had double-digit digs including Haley Jansen (12), Stephanie Kirchner (11) and Brooke Nichols (10).
In the nightcap, UW-Platteville continued its potent offensive attack for a 27-25, 25-23, 26-24 win over St. Mary's (Minnesota). Junior Stephanie Kirchner had a double double with a team-best 18 kills and 15 digs to lead the attack.
Kirchner and the Pioneers hit at a .287 clip in the win. Seniors Samanatha Rampart and Danielle Cushley added 14 and 10 kills, respectively in the win. Freshman setter Katie O'Malley and sophomore libero Haley Jansen played a key role in the win. O'Malley had 47 assists in the win and Jansen initiated multiple rallies with her 21 digs.
UW-Platteville will return to the court on Saturday and look to extend its home winning streak as they host St. Catherine and Coe at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
