Pioneers Win UW-Platteville Invitational
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team won its own tournament with a 27-25, 25-17, 25-22 win over Ripon and 16-25, 26-24, 25-14, 25-22 over St. Norbert.
Pioneers' (7-1) senior Samantha Rampart and junior Stephanie Kirchner were named to the All-Tournament Team.
In the win over Ripon, the Pioneers capitalized on nine service aces and a balanced offensive attack for the victory. Freshman Katie O'Malley had 31 assists and four aces from her setter position to orchestrate an attack that hit .126. Senior Danielle Cushley recorded a team-best nine kills.
In the win over St. Norbert, Kirchner hit at a .553 clip and pounded down 23 kills and 11 digs for her second double double of the season. Joining Kirchner in double figures was Cushley and Rachel Oldenburg, who had 13 and 10 kills, respectively. For Rachel Olenburg, it was a career-high, who also had a hand in three block assists for UW-Platteville. After surrendering the first set, the Pioneers trailed just once for the remainder of the match.
The Pioneers will next travel to Cornell College, where they will face St. Olaf (Fri., Sept. 14 at 4 p.m.) and Augsburg (Fri., Sept. 14 at 8 p.m.) as well as Bethel (Sat., Sept. 15 at 11 a.m.) and Cornell College (Sat., Sept. 15 at 3 p.m.).
