Pioneers fall to #16 Blugolds

UW-Platteville fell in a five-set thriller against 16th-ranked UW-Eau Claire 17-25, 25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 15-12 on Friday night in Williams Fieldhouse.
UW-Platteville started out quickly in the first set 6-0 lead to win the first set 25-17. The Pioneers were able to force a fifth-set after being down two-sets to one.
The Pioneers were led by senior Melissa Hillebrand with 16 kills, followed by Stephanie Kirchner with 12 and Briana Kaiser with 11 kills. Ali Sikic tallied 51 assist for the Pioneers.
The Blugolds' Rachel Ver Voort and Liz Amici had 13 and 12 kills respectably.
The Pioneers fall to 12-3 with all three losses coming for top 20-ranked teams, and the Blugolds improve to 10-3.
Coach Deb Schulman's Pioneers have a quick return against UW-Superior Saturday at noon, and then on Wednesday against Viterbo in Williams Fieldhouse for the annual Homecoming Yell at 7:00 p.m.
