Pioneers Fall In WIAC Championship
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team (14-3-4, 4-0-3 WIAC) fell 2-1 to UW-La Crosse (16-3-2, 6-0-1 WIAC) in the WIAC Championship game on Saturday evening from Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse.

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (14-3-4, 4-0-3 WIAC) fell 2-1 to UW-La Crosse (16-3-2, 6-0-1 WIAC) in the WIAC Championship game on Saturday evening from Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse.
The Eagles broke through early, scoring just over two minutes into the match on a corner kick. Right before halftime, sophomore Jess Morawski managed to tie the game at one apiece following a free kick by senior Arianna Lombardi. The goal in the 43rd minute was Morawski's 16th of the season and her third in the past two games.
The score remained even at one for nearly the entire second half until UW-La Crosse found the back of the net with just over a minute to play. The goal proved to be the difference in the match as the Eagles held on for the 2-1 win.
UW-La Crosse held a 26-12 advantage in total shots, but both teams finished with six shots on goal. Freshman Jorie Carr and Lombardi tied for the team lead in shots with three, while Morawski had two shots, both finishing on target.
Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Way made four saves on six shots faced in the close. Three of those saves came in the second half.
With the win, UW-La Crosse claims its third consecutive WIAC Tournanment Championship. The Eagles secure the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
