Pioneers Advance To WIAC Championship With 2-1 Win
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Two goals from sophomore Jess Morawski led the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team (14-2-4, 4-0-3 WIAC) to a 2-1 win over UW-Eau Claire (8-8-5, 3-1-3 WIAC) in the WIAC Tournament Semifinals on Thursday night inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Two goals from sophomore Jess Morawski led the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (14-2-4, 4-0-3 WIAC) to a 2-1 win over UW-Eau Claire (8-8-5, 3-1-3 WIAC) in the WIAC Tournament Semifinals on Thursday night inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
With the win, the Pioneers will advance to their second consecutive WIAC Championship game at UW-La Crosse this Saturday. The Eagles beat UW-River Falls 3-0 earlier on Thursday to secure their spot in the championship. The regular season match between the two teams finished in a 2-2 draw.
Morawski scored the only goal of the first half as the Pioneers took an early lead on her goal in the 15th minute. Senior Arianna Lombardi picked up the assist on the goal, her team-leading 14th of the year.
The Blugolds evened the game in the 52nd minute of the second half, but Morawski put UW-Platteville in front for good with her 15th goal of the season in the 61st minute. Senior Alyssa Peterson earned her fifth assist of the year on the goal.
The Pioneers finished with a 12-6 advantage in total shots in the match, including 6-4 in shots on goal. UW-Platteville's 12 shots were recorded by three players, with Morawski leading the way with five. Peterson and Lombardi combined for the other seven Pioneers shots.
Sophomore Madison Way collected the win in net and made three saves on four shots faced. The win pushed her record to 14-2-4 on the season.
