Pioneers Post Third Straight Shutout In 1-0 Win
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – One goal proved to be enough as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team (12-2-4, 3-0-3 WIAC) beat UW-Stevens Point (6-6-5, 3-2-1 WIAC) 1-0 on Saturday night inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – One goal proved to be enough as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (12-2-4, 3-0-3 WIAC) beat UW-Stevens Point (6-6-5, 3-2-1 WIAC) 1-0 on Saturday night inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
Senior Arianna Lombardi scored the game-winning goal for the Pioneers in the 62nd minute of the second half on a perfectly placed shot attempt into the lower left side of the net. The goal was her 10th of the season, second-most in the WIAC.
The Pioneers defense held strong for the remainder of the contest, with sophomore goalkeeper Madison Way finishing with five total saves to record her sixth shutout of the season. Way's final save of the game came in the 89th minute to maintain UW-Platteville's lead.
The Pointers finished with an 18-11 advantage in total shots, but the Pioneers held a slight 6-5 edge in shots on goal. Lombardi finished with a team-high five shots and three on goal, while senior Alyssa Peterson had a pair of shot attempts, both on target.
UW-Platteville moved up to second in the WIAC with just one conference game remaining. The Pioneers will wrap up the regular season next Saturday at 2 p.m. on the road against UW-Oshkosh.
