Late Rally Sends Pioneers To Draw Against Eagles
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – In a rematch of last season’s WIAC Championship game, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team (10-2-2, 1-0-1 WIAC) scored two goals late in the second half to post a 2-2 draw against UW-La Crosse (7-3-1, 1-0-1 WIAC) on Wednesday night from Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – In a rematch of last season's WIAC Championship game, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (10-2-2, 1-0-1 WIAC) scored two goals late in the second half to post a 2-2 draw against UW-La Crosse (7-3-1, 1-0-1 WIAC) on Wednesday night from Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The Eagles finished with more scoring opportunities in the contest as they held a 20-6 advantage in shots, but the Pioneers made the most of their chances with two goals on five shots on frame.
UW-La Crosse scored the first goal of the game in the 32nd minute of the first half, and the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Eagles until the final 12 minutes of the match.
Senior Lydia Smith kicked off a late game scoring spree by tying the game at one apiece in the 79th minute. Smith gathered a pass from sophomore Jess Morawski following a corner kick from senior Arianna Lombardi and fired a shot into the lower left corner.
UW-La Crosse answered the goal with one of their own in the 82nd minute, but Morawski evened the score again with her 12th goal of the season in the 84th minute. Lombardi picked up the her second assist after her cross into the box allowed Morawski to put a header on target.
Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Way made seven saves in the tie, good for her second-most saves in a contest this season. Four of those saves came in the second half as the Eagles looked to break the tie.
The Pioneers hit the road on Saturday for a WIAC matchup against UW-Eau Claire at 3 p.m.
