PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (9-0-1) continued its impressive start to the season by getting past Central (Iowa) (7-3-0) by a final score of 3-2 on Wednesday evening from Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers dominated the scoring chances in the first half, outshooting the Dutch 20-1, but only one of those shots resulted in a goal on junior Isabel Peterson's first of the season in the 31st minute. Senior Arianna Lombardi earned the assist on the goal.
Central tied the game in the 67th minute of the second half, and the game remained even at one until junior Izzy Streeter made it 2-1 on her first goal of the year. Lombardi and senior Lydia Smith were credited with assists.
Sophomore Jess Morawski added her 11th goal of the season after passes from Streeter and senior Alyssa Peterson in the 79th minute to give the Pioneers a two-goal cushion, but the Dutch answered less than a minute later to keep the game within one. The score remained 3-2 for the final ten minutes as UW-Platteville picked up its ninth win on the year.
The final shot count was 33-7 in favor of the Pioneers, with Morawski (8) and senior Anna Spindle (7) accounting for most UW-Platteville's shots. The Pioneers also held a 14-6 advantage in shots on goal for the match.
In goal, sophomore Madison Way stopped three of the five shots she faced to collect another win.
The Pioneers will take a road trip to California this weekend when they face UC Santa Cruz on Saturday at 4 p.m.
