Pioneers Advance to Their First WIAC Championship with 2-1 win over Blugolds
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team (10-2-5, 4-1-2) defeated UW-Eau Claire (10-5-4, 4-2-1) 2-1 Thursday night in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. With the victory, the Pioneers advance to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship for the first time in program history.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (10-2-5, 4-1-2) defeated UW-Eau Claire (10-5-4, 4-2-1) 2-1 Thursday night in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. With the victory, the Pioneers advance to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship for the first time in program history.
The Blugolds held a 1-0 lead for nearly half the night after Sophie Hubbard scored in the 32nd minute on a pass from Haley Von Rentzell.
The Pioneers tied it up on a free kick from junior Arianna Lombardi to junior Alyssa Peterson in the 67th minute. UW-Platteville took advantage of the momentum surge and less than two minutes later, Lombardi intercepted a Blugold's pass and scored the unassisted game-winning goal.
The Pioneers outshot UW-Eau Claire 13-11, notably taking seven shots in the second half with five on goal.
Peterson had a game-high five shots with three on goal. Lombardi totaled three shots with two on goal.
Freshman Madison Way received the win in goal and totaled two saves.
UW-Platteville travels to UW-La Crosse, on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. for the WIAC Championship game. The winner of the game receives the WIAC's automatic qualifier bid into the NCAA Tournament.
