Four Goal Outburst Sends Pioneers To Fifth Straight Win
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team (9-2-3, 4-1-1 WIAC) won its fifth straight contest with a 4-2 victory over UW-Stevens Point (6-9-1, 3-3-0 WIAC) on Saturday night at Eddie Kotal Field in Stevens Point.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (9-2-3, 4-1-1 WIAC) won its fifth straight contest with a 4-2 victory over UW-Stevens Point (6-9-1, 3-3-0 WIAC) on Saturday night at Eddie Kotal Field in Stevens Point.
After the Pointers moved ahead with a goal in the 17th minute, the Pioneers responded with a pair of goals in the 30th and 36th minutes. Junior Lydia Smith evened the game at one with freshman Jess Morawski getting credit for the assist. Six minutes later, junior Alyssa Peterson put UW-Platteville ahead with her third goal of the season.
The Pioneers increased the lead to 3-1 in the second half on Smith's second goal of the game. Peterson earned the assist, her first of the year. UW-Stevens Point got one back in the 74th minute, but junior Arianna Lombardi netted her eighth of the year in the 80th minute to put UW-Platteville in front by two.
The Pioneers outshot the Pointers 20-9 and 13-7 in shots on goal. Lombardi and Smith led the way with five shots apiece, with all five of Smith's finishing on frame. Sophomore Izzy Streeter added three shots, while Morawski and Peterson each tallied two shots.
Junior Juliana Penniston picked up her fifth straight win in net, stopping five of the seven shots she faced.
UW-Platteville will travel to Beloit on Wednesday evening for a 4 p.m. match.
