Pioneers Win 7-1 Over UW-Stout
MENOMONIE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team (7-2-3, 2-1-1) claimed its second conference win with a 7-1 victory over UW-Stout (3-8-2, 0-4-0) Saturday afternoon on Nelson Field.

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (7-2-3, 2-1-1) claimed its second conference win with a 7-1 victory over UW-Stout (3-8-2, 0-4-0) Saturday afternoon on Nelson Field.
The Pioneers wasted no time jumping to a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute when junior Lydia Smith connected with Sophie Carlos for the freshman's second goal of the season. Five minutes later, junior Alyssa Peterson doubled the lead with her second goal of the season.
The Pioneers scored once more in the first half when freshman Sarah Liljestrand assisted Smith in the 26thminute. The Blue Devils scored in the 39th minute to remove the risk of a shutout and the teams went into the half with the Pioneers leading 3-1.
UW-Platteville went on a hot-streak in in the second half, scoring three times in an eight-minute window. Smith scored her third goal of the season and second of the game with an assist from junior Arianna Lombardi in the 62nd minute. Lombardi then scored her sixth goal of the season six minutes later. Not more than two minutes after, the Pioneers led 6-1 thanks to a goal by freshman Amanda Dietz, assisted by freshman Meghan Frantz.
Carlos scored once more in the 79th minute with another assist from Frantz to give the Pioneers their 7-1 lead.
The Pioneers outshot the Blue Devils 31-10, tallying 20 shots in the first half alone. UW-Platteville put 16 on goal while UW-Stout totaled 4 on goal.
Junior Juliana Penniston took home the win and recorded three saves in 82 minutes.
Lydia Smith's assist brought her career total to 20 which breaks the program's record of 19 set by Allie Metcalfe.
The Pioneers will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 18 when they host UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m. in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
