Pioneers fall 2-0 to No. 10 Eagles
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team dropped its first WIAC contest on Wednesday night at No. 10 nationally ranked UW-La Crosse. Behind two goals midway through the first half, the Eagles (10-1-0, 2-0-0) defeated the Pioneers (4-2-3, 0-1-1) 2-0 at Veterans Memorial Field.

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team dropped its first WIAC contest on Wednesday night at No. 10 nationally ranked UW-La Crosse. Behind two goals midway through the first half, the Eagles (10-1-0, 2-0-0) defeated the Pioneers (4-2-3, 0-1-1) 2-0 at Veterans Memorial Field.
Ainsley Allan scored the go-ahead goal in the 27th minute with a shot to low center. Ten minutes later, the Eagles doubled the lead with another shot to low center, this time by Aubree Caya.
Senior Lydia Smith, junior Arianna Lombardi and freshman Sophie Carlos tied for the team lead in shots with two apiece with Smith putting both on goal.
UW-Platteville finished with nine shots total and three on goal. The Eagles finished the night with 25 shots and seven on goal.
Freshman Madison Way was stationed in goal for the first 26 minutes and tallied four saves. Junior Juliana Penniston finished the night in goal for the Pioneers and recorded one save and two goals against.
The Pioneers will return to action and Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium on Saturday, October 7 at 6 p.m. when they host UW-Eau Claire on Youth Night.
