Smith and Spindle Collect WIAC Honors
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Sophomores Lydia Smith and Anna Spindle of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team were each recognized by the WIAC on Wednesday afternoon. Smith was named to the 2022 All-WIAC Team, while Spindle earned a spot on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Sophomores Lydia Smith and Anna Spindle of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team were each recognized by the WIAC on Wednesday afternoon. Smith was named to the 2022 All-WIAC Team, while Spindle earned a spot on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Smith was a key piece in the Pioneer offense throughout the season, starting 18 games and finishing with five goals and 12 assists. The sophomore broke the program's single season assist record on Oct. 8 in a win over UW-River Falls and paced the WIAC in that category, finishing with four more assists than the next closest player. The Troy, Ill., native was named WIAC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 4 after a one-goal, three-assist performance in a 4-3 win over UW-Stout. Smith led the team with fifty shots and tallied a pair of game-winning goals.
Spindle started all 19 games in the midfield and recorded four goals and a pair of assists. The sophomore netted a pair of game-winners, highlighted by a converted penalty kick in a 1-0 road win over UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 15. The Geneva, Ill., native finished with 22 total shots on the season, with 10 coming on goal.
The Pioneers wrapped up the campaign by tying the program record for most wins in a single season with a 12-6-2 overall record to go along with a 3-3-1 mark in the WIAC.
