The first half remained scoreless until the Pointers broke through in the 40th minute after a shot following a cross into the box beat Pioneer senior goalkeeper Emma Ball to the upper left corner. UW-Platteville just missed scoring just two minutes prior, but a shot by sophomore Alyssa Peterson was kept out by the UW-Stevens Point defense. In the second half, the Pioneers had several scoring opportunities, including a well-placed shot by senior Emma Willard, but the Pointers stopped three shots on goal to maintain the one-goal advantage.
UW-Stevens Point outshot the UW-Platteville 17-10 while the shots on goal were even at four apiece. Peterson and sophomore Lydia Smith paced the Pioneers with two shots each. Ball finished with three saves on four shots faced across 90 minutes in net.
