Late Goal Dooms Pioneers Against Warhawks
WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team (8-3-1, 1-1 WIAC) fell by a late goal 1-0 to UW-Whitewater (7-2-3, 2-0 WIAC) on Wednesday night at Robert W. Fiskum Field.

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (8-3-1, 1-1 WIAC) fell by a late goal 1-0 to UW-Whitewater (7-2-3, 2-0 WIAC) on Wednesday night at Robert W. Fiskum Field.
Neither team could break through in the first half, with the Warhawks outshooting the Pioneers 5-1. Freshman Jenna Gravitt had the lone shot for UW-Platteville in the eighth minute, but the attempt was turned aside. Senior goalkeeper Emma Ball recorded three saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless at the break.
The Warhawks got on the board in the second half, scoring in the 80th minute. The Pioneers had a chance to even the game late, as sophomore Lydia Smith fired a shot on goal, but the Warhawks goalkeeper made the save.
UW-Whitewater outshot UW-Platteville 11-3, including 6-3 in shots on goal. Smith paced the team with two shots, both on target, while Ball made five saves in goal.
The Pioneers return home to Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium on Saturday afternoon when they host WIAC foe UW-River Falls at 3 p.m. for Hispanic Heritage Day.
