Second Half Goal Propels Pioneers Past Vikings

NORTH PARK, Ill. – A second half goal proved to be enough as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team defeated North Park 1-0 on Thursday evening.
The Pioneers had most of the scoring opportunities in the first half, tallying six shots and three shots on goal, but the Vikings were able to keep the game scoreless heading into the break. Sophomore Lauren Lodico had a pair of scoring chances midway through the half, but North Park goalkeeper Campbelle Hunt turned both attempts away.
UW-Platteville finally broke through in the 55th minute when sophomore Anna Spindle sent one into the net after a pass from freshman Jenna Gravitt.
North Park had a couple of shot attempts in the final minutes, but senior goalkeeper Emma Ball and the Pioneer defense were able to keep a clean sheet.
UW-Platteville outshot North Park 11-10 including 5-1 in shots on goal. Lodico and freshman Jenna Gravitt led the way with three shots, while sophomore Lydia Smith added two. Ball notched her second shutout of the season, stopping the only shot on goal she faced.
The Pioneers will host Coe on Sunday, Sept. 11 for their first home game of the 2022 season. The game will kick off at 3 p.m. inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
