Pioneers fall to Pointers on the road
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team was edged 2-1 Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team was edged 2-1 Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The Pioneers drop to 8-5-3 overall and 0-5-1 in the WIAC while the Pointers improve to 8-9-0 and 4-2-0 in the league.
The teams remained evenly matched through the first half with UW-Stevens Point holding a slim 5-4 advantage on shots in the fist half. UW-Platteville had a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks in the first frame, but the teams eventually went into halftime locked at 0-0.
The Pointers managed to fire off an unassisted goal in the 64th minute and then doubled their lead in the 82nd minute with another unassisted goal.
UW-Platteville fought all the way to the end and freshman Alyssa Peterson put the Pioneers on the scoreboard right as the final seconds of the game ticked away.
UW-Platteville finished with 10 shots in the game with three on goal while the Pointers totaled 14 with eight on goal.
Junior Onalee Erickson recorded six saves in goal for the Pioneers and UW-Stevens Point's Miranda Nieman tallied two.
The Pioneers will keep traveling north this weekend and will meet up with the Lions at Finlandia University on Sunday, Oct. 24 with game time set for 1:30 p.m.
