PLATTEVILLE, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team defeated North Park University 4-2 Monday evening less than 48 hours after a tough loss in overtime this weekend. The Pioneers (8-3-3, 0-3-1) remain unbeaten by non-conference opponents following the victory over the Vikings (3-11-1, 0-5-0) at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
Although UW-Platteville's offense dominated the first half, tallying 16 shots to North Park's five, the teams were tied after 45 minutes of play. Freshman Alyssa Peterson from freshman Annalise Spindle struck first in the 21st minute, but Danielle Boudakh evened the score 1-1 eight minutes before the half.
The Pioneers continued to lay on the pressure at the start of the second half. Senior Amber Lueder fired one off at North Park, but it was saved from finding the back of the net. However, the keeper was unable to maintain control and a North Park defender tapped it in to their own goal in the shuffle.
The Vikings fought back once again and in the 61st minute a penalty kick in the lower right corner locked the score 2-2.
While the Vikings appeared to lose steam, the Pioneers did not back down and accounted for all seven of the remaining shots taken. The pressure paid off and freshman Lauren Lodico assisted by Lueder gave UW-Platteville a one-point advantage at the 74:28 mark.
Freshmen Lydia Smith from Bryanne Pinkowski added a little breathing room in the 82nd minute with what would be the final goal of the game, and the Pioneers won 4-2.
Overall, UW-Platteville tallied 29 shots with 18 on goal while the Vikings took eight shots with six on frame.
Onalee Erickson tallied four saves, meanwhile North Park's Theresa Weiss had 14 saves in the match.
The Pioneers return to action and hit the road on Wednesday, Oct. 20 when they travel to UW-La Crosse with game time set for 6 p.m.
