Pioneers suffer first loss after Stout OT win
MENOMONIE, Wi. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season after a 2-1 University of Wisconsin-Stout victory in overtime. Friday’s Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game snaps the program’s record-setting eight-game unbeaten streak which kicked off the season.

MENOMONIE, Wi. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season after a 2-1 University of Wisconsin-Stout victory in overtime. Friday's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game snaps the program's record-setting eight-game unbeaten streak which kicked off the season.
The Blue Devils (8-3-1, 1-0 WIAC), which are ranked #8 in the region by the United Soccer Coaches Association, trailed the Pioneers (6-1-2, 0-1 WIAC) in the first half when it came to shots taken with UW-Platteville holding an 8-3 advantage in the first frame. Although, neither side was able to tip the scale and the teams went into halftime knotted 0-0.
UW-Stout managed to take the lead for the first time in the 60th minute off a penalty kick. Freshman Lauren Lodico did not let the Blue Devils advantage hold for long and attacked in the 65th minute to tie the game 1-1.
The game remained locked through regulation and a late push in in the first overtime ended with UW-Stout's Marissa Steele connecting from Rachel Younker to end the game with a 2-1 win at Nelson Field.
Freshmen Alyssa Peterson and Bryanne Pinkowski each tallied four shots apiece to pace the Pioneers.
Overall, the Pioneers out-shot the Blue Devils 19-13. UW-Platteville held the advantage on corner kicks with 6-4 and totaled eight fouls to the Blue Devils' seven.
Junior Emma Ball recorded seven saves as did UW-Stout's Haely Vokaty.
The Pioneers will return to action and WIAC play on Wednesday, Oct. 6 when they take on the UW-Whitewater Warhawks at 7 p.m. in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
