Pioneers shutout Coe to remain undefeated, best start to season in program history
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s soccer team made program history Tuesday night in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium after a 3-0 shutout against the Coe College Kohawks. The Pioneers improve to 4-0-2 overall following their third shutout of the season and remain undefeated after six games marking a program best. Since the women’s soccer team’s inauguration in 1992, the previous best was the Pioneers’ 3-0-2 start to the 2005 season.

The Pioneers improve to 4-0-2 overall following their third shutout of the season and remain undefeated after six games marking a program best. After the game, Director of Soccer Sam Koenig said, "We are so proud of this group as a coaching staff! They are all in with what we ask them to do and we are rolling!"
Koenig, who is in his first season with the UW-Platteville women's soccer program added, "We need to remain focused and continue getting better every day. All of these ladies are making an impact on our program for the past, present and future."
Having not defeated Coe since the 2016 season, Tuesday's decisive victory saw three goals by three different Pioneers. Two of the three goals being the first of the season for the Pioneer. After six games, UW-Platteville has racked up 14 goals by nine different individuals.
The Pioneers tallied 33 shots on the night (18 on goal) while only allowing Coe two chances in the 90 minutes.
Freshman Lauren Lodico got the momentum going in the 20th minute with an unassisted goal. Eight minutes later, senior Amber Lueder who leads the team with four goals this season struck off a pass from Lodico to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Pioneers took the lead into the second half and freshman Annalise Spindle headed a corner kick from freshman Lydia Smith to build the lead to 3-0 at the 55th minute.
Juniors Emma Ball and Onalee Erickson split halves in goal with Ball recording one save in the shutout. Coe's Liana Sweezer tallied 12 saves during the game.
The Pioneers will take a break and return to action on Sunday, Sept. 19 when they return to Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium for a 1 p.m. game against Nebraska Wesleyan.
