PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team outlasted the pressure from the Simpson College Storm to tie 1-1 after 110 minutes of play on Saturday. The draw in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium moves the Pioneers to 2-0-2 on the year while Simpson is now 2-1-1.
This is the first time since 2005 that the Pioneers remain undefeated after four games in a season.
"That is how you have grit and get a result on a day that takes a whole family," said Director of Soccer Sam Koenig. "This is a fun group to coach!"
While the Storm held a dominate 24-8 advantage on shots, the Pioneers defense came up big with junior keeper Emma Ball tallying four saves and junior Onalee Erickson adding another seven in the match up.
Simpson was first on the scoreboard with a goal by Jordyn Foelske in the 33rd minute.
While Simpson did not allow for many opportunities, senior Amber Lueder tied things up in the 36th minute when she scored her third goal of the season off an assist from freshman Annalise Spindle.
The two goals in the first half would prove to be the only in the game.
Freshman Pioneer Lydia Smith had a team high four shots on the day with all on goal.
The Pioneers will return to action tomorrow, Sept. 12 when they host the Lakeland University Muskies in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium at 1 p.m.
