NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team fell 3-2 in overtime Friday night against Westminster College in Harold Burry Stadium.
Westminster was first on the board in the night's game when Kayla Trozzie scored in the sixth minute.
The Pioneers entered the half down 0-1, but hardly a minute into the second half, Westminster found the net once again and increased the Pioneers deficit to 0-2.
However, momentum shifted a frenzy around the 75-minute mark sent the Pioneers into a comeback. Junior Amber Lueder scored first to bring the Pioneers within one. Just four minutes later, freshman Samantha Hutton scored her first goal of her college career to tie the game back up 2-2 with less than 15 minutes remaining in regulation.
The Pioneers and Westminster took the tie into overtime, but an early shot by Titans at 90:44 would bring the season opener to a close 3-2.
Overall, the Titans held the advantage in shots 16-11 with ten on goal for Westminster and six on frame for the Pioneers.
Junior goalkeeper Kathryn Flaherty recorded seven saves on the night while Lueder recorded a team high three shots.
