STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Platteville Pioneers dropped 3-0 to the UW-Stevens Point Pointers Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers fall to 8-8-0 and 2-4-0 in the WIAC while the Pointers remain unbeaten in conference play and improve to 12-2-2 and 5-0-1 in conference.
The Pointers took a strong early lead with all three goals coming in the first half. The first in the 17th minute resulted from a corner kick served to Jacqueline Aleman. The second goal was tapped in off a save in the 29th minute and the final goal resulted from a free kick 35 yards out in the 33rd minute of play.
The Pointers tallied a 20-1 advantage on shots for the day and Katheryn Flaherty recorded eight saves with three in the first half and five in the second. UW-Stevens Point also held the advantage in corner kicks with seven compared to the Pioneers' three. Seventeen fouls were given with nine on UW-Stevens Point and eight against UW-Platteville.
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday, Oct. 24 when they host Augustana College at 7 p.m. in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
