Pioneers shut-out Blue Devils
MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Platteville Pioneers shut-out the UW-Stout Blue Devils 4-0 Saturday afternoon in the WIAC battle.

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Platteville Pioneers shut-out the UW-Stout Blue Devils 4-0 Saturday afternoon in the WIAC battle.
The Pioneers improve to 8-6-0 and 2-2-0 in the WIAC while the Blue Devils fall to 2-10-1 and 0-4-0 in the WIAC.
Four Pioneers were credited for the four goals of the day. Sophomore Amber Lueder started things off for the Pioneers with a goal shot from the right side of the box with an assist by Caelyn Steffens in the 55th minute. Taylor Gamble then lined up for a corner kick and found freshman Macie Alexa for her first goal of the season in the 69th minute. Not long after, freshman Kylee Colwell found the back of the net in at 72:35 to extend the Pioneers' lead to 3-0. Freshman Caelyn Steffens wrapped up the day's goals with an unassisted shot from outside the box in the 75th minute to set UW-Platteville apart 4-0 with less than 15:00 left in the game.
UW-Platteville held a 17-5 advantage on shots with 14 shots on goal for the Pioneers and UW-Stout held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks for the day. The Pioneers' goalkeeper Kathryn Flaherty recorded five saves on the day with the win.
UW-Platteville currently leads the WIAC in goals for the 2018 season with Caelyn Steffens and Amber Lueder holding the first and second spots in Points and Steffens leading in Goals with 23, more than double any other athlete in the WIAC. The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 when they host UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
